    Silicon metal,also known as crystalline silicon or industrial silicon, its main use is as an iron base alloy additives.Silicon metal is made from quartz and coke in electric heating furnace smelting products, the main ingredient of silicon content in 98% (99.99% in recent years, the Si content of also included in the silicon metal), the rest of the impurities of iron, aluminum, calcium, etc.

    2. Application


    1). Widely applied to refractory material and power metallurgy industry to improve the heat resistance, wear resistance and oxidation resistance.


    2). In the chemical line of organic silicon, industrial silicon powder is basic raw material that high polymer of organic silicon formatting.


    3). Industrial silicon powder is sublimated into monocrystalline silicon, which is widely used in highttech field as an essential raw material for integrated circuit and electronic element.


    4). In metallurgy and foundry line, industrial silicon powder is regarded as to be iron base alloy additive, the alloy pharmaceutical of silicon steel, thus improve the steel hardenability.

    5). These are used in high-temperature material production in order to manufacture enamels and pottery. These also cater the demands of semiconductor industry by producing ultra-pure silicon wafers. 

    6). in the steel industry used as deoxidizer and alloying agents.

    7). in the iron industry used as a nucleating agent and spheroidizing agent.Cast iron is a kind of important modern industrial metal materials, it is much cheaper than steel, easy to melt refining, excellent casting performance and seismic capacity is far better than steel. Especially the nodular cast iron, its mechanical performance at or near the steel mechanical property. Add a certain amount of silicon in cast iron can prevent iron in formation and precipitation of carbides, and promote the graphite spheroidizing, therefore in the nodular iron production, ferrosilicon inoculants is a kind of important separation graphite (help) and spheroidizing agent.

    8). used as a reductant in ferroalloy production. Not only chemical affinity between silicon and oxygen is very big, but also high silicon silicon carbon content is very low. So high silicon ferrosilicon (or siliceous alloy) is a low-carbon ferroalloy ferroalloy industry production more commonly used a reducing agent.

    3. Production process

    Preparing: 


    1).The raw materials(silicon dioxide,carbon materials) are weighed and then placed into the furnace through thetop using the fume hood.
    2).The lid of furnace,which contains electrodes,is placed into position.


    Melting: 


    3).Electric current is passed through the electrodes to form an arc.The heat generated by this arc melts 
    the material and results in the reactin of sand with carbon to form silicon and carbon monoxide.Reducing boron low phosphorus .
    4). While the metal is in the molten state,it is treated with oxygen and air to reduce the amount of calcium and aluminium impurities.Depending on the grade,silicon metal contains 98.5-99.99%silicon with trace 
    amounts of iron,calcium and aluminium.

    Cooling:


    5).The silicon is then tapped from the bottom of the furnace and cooled in large cast iron trays.

    Crushing:


    6).After cooling,the metal is dumped from the mold into a truck,weighed and then dumped in the storage pile.Dumping the metal from the mold to the truck breaks it up sufficiently for storage.
